Yes, I'm doing it for my embedded runs since our platforms are slower.
You can in fact specify values for each benchmark in the property file. 
For instance:
specjvm2008.timeout=60000

Now, the only one I had to increase was in fact that specjvm2008 value. 
Looks like your laptop is really slooow :-)

FYI, the properties for the test engine and the benchmarks are specified 
in the docs/users_guide directory.
