I applied your PR changes on top of the latest mainline code (see my personal branch https://github.com/robcasloz/jdk/tree/JDK-8291801/) and still can reproduce the issue on Linux Ubuntu 20.04, using both JDK 11.0.16 and JDK 17.0.5. Do you think it might be a platform-dependent issue?
