True.. and in the future I'll certainly check that section in the
future to read the "fine print".  I think it was perhaps a bit
questionable to release 1.6.0_18 in this state where a default install
is exposed to this nasty issue, when -XX:-ReduceInitialCardMarks could
have been specified by default for the GC collectors affected, but
anyway, that is just me.

Lots of people upgrade to the latest JDK without reading the release
notes, rightly or wrongly.  That said, I realise these things are not
black and white, so I am sure there were reasons behind this.
