These are the JDK changes which correspond to Christian's fixes.  They depend on the JVM changes.  Like the JVM changes, they will be staged through hotspot-comp.

The changes to Indify also remove transitional support, since the unit tests (for which Indify is used) no longer exercise transitional forms of the API.
