please review the following backport request for 8u40.

8056071: compiler/whitebox/IsMethodCompilableTest.java fails with 'method() is
not compilable after 3 iterations'

The changes were pushed on Tuesday. Nightly testing showed no problems. The
changes apply cleanly to 8u40.
