I'm not sure that we need it as much as C programs do. By and large
we don't allocate variable-sized objects on the stack, and of course
there is no way for a Java programmer to do such a thing, so this
protects against a risk that we don't have. I suppose this might
protect our users if we have a bug in the runtime code or in scalar
replacement.
