While I would agree that the value of alerting on an absolute value is questionable, one can do analysis on the numbers and that can be exceptionally useful. Unfortunately the data from the MXBeans make this type of analysis quite difficult. It is easer to take the data from the GC logs even if you have to time box it.

> If you want to have some usefull numbers I would restrict myself to log free memory for the various pools after related GC runs. The JMX beans have a metric for that.
