Great, OK, I will do that internally.

This does not sound right. Assertions failed because of the hashcode
randomness and collision rates? Do we really have these kind of
assertions? Sounds weird. It would be nice if you can give a pointer,
because...

...Dave Dice also has a set of changes targeted on state transitions
when acquiring the hashCode, which we want to be pushed as well. If we
can see all the prior experience beforehand, we could make something
more thorough than just flipping the mode switch.
