RFR: 8364103: Convert existing sprintf-chains to stringStream [v2]

Paul Hübner has updated the pull request with a new target base due to a merge or a rebase. The pull request now contains three commits:

 - Incorporate reviewer feedback.
 - Merge branch 'master' into JDK-8364103
 - Refactor stack trace printing to use stringStream.
