JSR 396 (Java SE 21): JEP Proposed to Target: 443: Unnamed Patterns and Variables (Preview)

The following JEP with scope "SE" has been proposed to target JDK 21:

  443: Unnamed Patterns and Variables (Preview)

  Summary: Enhance the Java language with unnamed patterns, which match
  a record component without stating the component's name or type, and
  unnamed variables, which can be initialized but not used.  Both are
  denoted by an underscore character, _.  This is a preview language
  feature.

The announced deadline for feedback to jdk-dev is Mon 15 May 23:59 UTC:

If there are no unresolved objections at that time, then the JEP will be moved
to the Targeted state, indicating that the feature is expected to appear in
