JEP 467: configurable format for the future

Hello mailing list,

When I read the JEP 467, the section about “configurable comment styles” doesn’t seem very specific.

In particular, current javadoc could be extended a bit by saying that:

/** … */ is now equivalent to /**html … /, and interprets its content as html

/**markdown … */ interprets its content as markdown

This allows to keep a single common look to javadocs, while also opening the door to a future third javadoc format, should markdown become also unfavored.

What’s the rationale against this?
