If there is a plan behind the scenes, then good - right now I think
there is a bit of a vacuum around future LTS releases which is the
point I've been making.

The criteria above is that the binaries need to be official. Being at
OpenJDK rather than Oracle is just fine. Being at a location
completely separate to OpenJDK is not fine.
