Testing revelaed the need to include https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8262896 into this PR as well.
However that fix has one small issue: 
template<int BType, typename JniType = decltype(BasicTypeToJni<BType>::jni_type)>
warning: default template arguments for a function template are a C++11 extension [-Wc++11-extensions]
