[jdk21u-dev] RFR: 8318700: MacOS Zero cannot run gtests due to wrong JVM path

Backporting JDK-8318700: MacOS Zero cannot run gtests due to wrong JVM path. Adjusts code to handle more JVM variants. Ran GHA Sanity Checks, local Tier 1 and 2 tests. Patch is clean.
