The functional changes patch clean and build out-of-the box. but personally I would prefer to limit the number of backported changes.  Especially I do not want to take a test dependency as only reason to backport a functional change.
Further, the follow up of this change should also go to 17, and for 17 I have even less motivation to take additional funcional changes.
