JEP proposed to target JDK 10 (2017/9/14)

The following JEP has been placed into the "Proposed to Target"
state by its owner after discussion and review:

  286: Local-Variable Type Inference

Feedback on this proposal is welcome, as are reasoned objections.
If no such objections are raised by 22:00 UTC next Thursday, 21
September, or if they're raised and then satisfactorily answered,
then per the JEP 2.0 process proposal [1] I'll target this JEP
to JDK 10.

(To answer an obvious question: The expectation is that JDK 10 will
 morph into JDK 18.3 under a new Project, as recently proposed [2].
 Until that happens, however, we'll continue working here.)
