All of the targeted M3 features -- as well as a couple of features originally targeted to M4 -- have been integrated except for the last part of John Rose's JSR 292 (InvokeDynamic) work. We're going to slip build 58 by one day in order to get that in, so expect to see it promoted this Friday (5/8) rather than Thursday (5/7). Sorry, no; we'll be shipping builds only for Linux, Solaris, and Windows. Apple is responsible for the JDK on Mac OS. As we get further into the schedule we'll be working closely with Apple to help ensure that JDK 7 is available on Mac OS in a timely fashion, but at the moment I don't know of any plans to do a Mac OS build of M3. - Mark From jennifer.godinez at sun.com Tue May 5 14:33:20 2009 From: jennifer.godinez at sun.com (jennifer.godinez at sun.com) Date: Tue, 05 May 2009 21:33:20 +0000 Subject: hg: jdk7/jdk7/jdk: 9 new changesets Message-ID: <20090505213521.C9473EFBE@hg.openjdk.java.net> Changeset: a33222e53611 Author: prr Date: 2009-04-02 10:16 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/a33222e53611 6753173: No need to read all the TrueType 'post' table to get underline info Reviewed-by: igor, jgodinez ! src/share/classes/sun/font/TrueTypeFont.java Changeset: e3b4eb55a696 Author: lana Date: 2009-04-08 15:40 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/e3b4eb55a696 Merge - make/common/shared/Compiler.gmk - make/jprt.config - src/share/classes/sun/misc/JavaIODeleteOnExitAccess.java Changeset: e61d93fc8ed1 Author: mchung Date: 2009-04-14 17:43 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/e61d93fc8ed1 6818072: Load Ductus using Class.forName if exist instead of using the service loader Summary: First attempt Class.forName to load Ductus class before using service loader Reviewed-by: flar, prr ! src/share/classes/sun/java2d/pipe/RenderingEngine.java Changeset: d609ae2faac2 Author: jgodinez Date: 2009-04-15 08:47 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/d609ae2faac2 6827989: Use Unsafe.copyMemory for array->Unsafe copy operations in RenderBuffer Reviewed-by: campbell, flar Contributed-by: linuxhippy ! make/sun/awt/FILES_c_unix.gmk ! make/sun/awt/FILES_c_windows.gmk ! make/sun/awt/mapfile-vers ! make/sun/awt/mapfile-vers-linux ! src/share/classes/sun/java2d/pipe/RenderBuffer.java - src/share/native/sun/java2d/pipe/RenderBuffer.c Changeset: c3aaa11e4eb6 Author: jgodinez Date: 2009-04-20 12:31 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/c3aaa11e4eb6 6821495: test/java/awt/print/PrinterJob/PrtException.java fails Reviewed-by: igor, prr ! test/java/awt/PrintJob/EdgeTest/EdgeTest.java ! test/java/awt/PrintJob/MultipleEnd/MultipleEnd.java + test/java/awt/print/PrinterJob/Collate2DPrintingTest.java + test/java/awt/print/PrinterJob/PrtException.java ! test/javax/print/CheckDupFlavor.java + test/javax/print/LookupServices.java ! test/javax/print/TestRaceCond.java + test/javax/print/attribute/Chroma.java + test/javax/print/attribute/ChromaticityValues.java + test/javax/print/attribute/GetCopiesSupported.java ! test/javax/print/attribute/PSCopiesFlavorTest.java + test/javax/print/attribute/SidesPageRangesTest.java + test/javax/print/attribute/SupportedPrintableAreas.java + test/javax/print/attribute/autosense/PrintAutoSenseData.java Changeset: 53ca5822bdfe Author: jgodinez Date: 2009-04-21 09:43 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/53ca5822bdfe 6829678: StrokeShapeTest: createStrokedShape() behaves differently Reviewed-by: igor, flar Contributed-by: rkennke ! src/share/classes/sun/java2d/pisces/Stroker.java + test/sun/pisces/StrokeShapeTest.java Changeset: b4450e6de8a3 Author: jgodinez Date: 2009-04-28 13:25 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/b4450e6de8a3 Merge ! make/sun/awt/FILES_c_windows.gmk ! make/sun/awt/mapfile-vers-linux ! src/share/classes/sun/font/TrueTypeFont.java - src/share/classes/sun/text/normalizer/UProperty.java - src/share/native/java/util/zip/ZipEntry.c - src/windows/native/sun/windows/awt_KeyboardFocusManager.h Changeset: 662a327cfe1d Author: jgodinez Date: 2009-04-29 12:27 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/662a327cfe1d Merge - src/share/native/sun/java2d/pipe/RenderBuffer.c Changeset: f8b061ea131c Author: jgodinez Date: 2009-05-05 09:09 -0700 URL: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/rev/f8b061ea131c Merge - src/share/native/sun/java2d/pipe/RenderBuffer.c From gnu_andrew at member.fsf.org Tue May 5 14:44:37 2009 From: gnu_andrew at member.fsf.org (Andrew John Hughes) Date: Tue, 5 May 2009 22:44:37 +0100 Subject: JDK 7 M3 status In-Reply-To: <20090505160709.B420E5591@eggemoggin.niobe.net> References: <701fce30905050855m56dc8093jd127265c03524849@mail.gmail.com> <20090505160709.B420E5591@eggemoggin.niobe.net> Message-ID: <17c6771e0905051444u67cd2504m6d0ea3f4c7c5caa4@mail.gmail.com> 2009/5/5 Mark Reinhold : >> Date: Tue, 05 May 2009 08:55:36 -0700 >> From: silverburgh.meryl at gmail.com > >> Will Jdk 7 M3 work on Mac OS 10.5? In principle I think this is a fine idea, but at this point in M3 it doesn't seem worth the effort given our other priorities. Build 59 is scheduled for next week, after which the gates will be re-opened for general M4 development. If we actually need to do the scheduled M3 showstopper build (60) then we'll spin up a temporary forest just for that purpose. Once we're past JavaOne then let's work on a specific "buffering" proposal for use in M4 and beyond. - Mark From gnu_andrew at member.fsf.org Fri May 8 05:05:10 2009 From: gnu_andrew at member.fsf.org (Andrew John Hughes) Date: Fri, 8 May 2009 13:05:10 +0100 Subject: JDK7: Buffering and stabilization In-Reply-To: <20090508051249.BDD65913F@callebaut.niobe.net> References: <49EF642A.8020206@sun.com> <20090508051249.BDD65913F@callebaut.niobe.net> Message-ID: <17c6771e0905080505y4f8d2f8ew89e95a53d26813ee@mail.gmail.com> 2009/5/8 Mark Reinhold : >> Date: Wed, 22 Apr 2009 11:38:34 -0700 >> From: jonathan.gibbons at sun.com > >> Recent announcements [1] have changed the rules for integrating changes >> into OpenJDK JDK7. >> >> ... >> >> Therefore, rather than have individual groups set up their own private >> integration areas, I'd like to suggest we create a single new forest for >> pushing changes to stabilize the master repository for a upcoming >> milestone -- and we leave the main integration repositories open for >> business, accumulating changes until they can next be pushed to the master. > > In principle I think this is a fine idea, but at this point in M3 it > doesn't seem worth the effort given our other priorities. ?Build 59 > is scheduled for next week, after which the gates will be re-opened > for general M4 development. ?If we actually need to do the scheduled > M3 showstopper build (60) then we'll spin up a temporary forest just > for that purpose. > > Once we're past JavaOne then let's work on a specific "buffering" > proposal for use in M4 and beyond. > > - Mark > So b59 may be the last build drop for M3/JavaOne preview? Yes, 59 might be the last build for M3. We won't know for sure until we finish analyzing test runs and reviewing bug reports, however, most likely on or around Wednesday, 20 May. If there is a 60 then I expect any changes relative to 59 to be quite minimal. > We'd like > to do a matching IcedTea release ... I'm not aware of a Feature Proposal template yet, perhaps I missed it. I'd like to move the Locale Enhancement project forward, by submitting a proposal and (hopefully) getting milestone/integration slot for it. But I'm not sure how to proceed, and time keeps passing. Absent a formal feature proposal, what is the process I should use to move forward with this? Any ideas? You need to figure out why the generator tool did not get created. Go into jdk/make/tools and try a 'make' there, see if the tools are getting built. The nimbus_generator.jar should exist at c:/work/ie-build-64/btjars/nimbus_generator.jar at this point in the build process. The build tools get built early on, once, so that anyone building just a part of the make tree isn't paying to constantly regenerate the tools. -kto -kto > > Thanks, > > Artem From Peter.Zhelezniakov at Sun.COM Thu May 14 01:14:06 2009 From: Peter.Zhelezniakov at Sun.COM (Peter Zhelezniakov) Date: Thu, 14 May 2009 12:14:06 +0400 Subject: Upcoming changes to JDK7 build process: JIBX In-Reply-To: <17c6771e0905130620p2eab5690xdf46f172dabfc65a@mail.gmail.com> References: <49EC549A.5090505@Sun.com> <49FEC773.90601@Sun.com> <17c6771e0905130520q1acac076qc8671f990a3e279d@mail.gmail.com> <4A0ABE06.4030204@Sun.com> <17c6771e0905130546w48d9603bme55477d7229ed8e9@mail.gmail.com> <4A0AC722.2060105@Sun.com> <17c6771e0905130620p2eab5690xdf46f172dabfc65a@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <4A0BD2CE.1020001@Sun.com> Andrew John Hughes wrote: > Do you know if there is a symbol or similar which reports the current version? For IcedTea the requirements are pretty simple. We want one baseline Hotspot for doing i586/x86_64/sparc builds and other zero/shark platform builds (there is also the cacao build, but that is not really relevant here, since that just totally replaces hotspot with a cacao based libjvm.so). This wasn't possible with the older hotspot releases, and keeping all the patches up to date across hotspot hs11 (old openjdk6), hs12 (new openjdk6) and hs14 just was too much work (and somewhat fragile), also hs14 is much closer to what is in openjdk7 and icedtea7, which makes forward porting the icedtea6 patches to icedtea7 much easier. So what IcedTea does now is by default just pick off the tip (well actually explicitly defined hg rev, that has to be updated by hand, to make sure someone double checks all changes are sane and all patches apply cleanly) of hsx14 master archive (you can configure with alternative hotspot releases if you like though). If IcedTea wants fewer or more fixes than in the OpenJDK 6 repo, I'm confident the IcedTea folks will be able to manage them :-) -Joe From martinrb at google.com Sat May 30 16:15:54 2009 From: martinrb at google.com (Martin Buchholz) Date: Sat, 30 May 2009 16:15:54 -0700 Subject: JDK 7 M3 build 59 is the JavaOne Preview Release In-Reply-To: <20090528182145.9F41E5E98@eggemoggin.niobe.net> References: <20090526150038.B0B485E96@eggemoggin.niobe.net> <20090528182145.9F41E5E98@eggemoggin.niobe.net> Message-ID: <1ccfd1c10905301615u56419ff0s81580f317a5532bd@mail.gmail.com> A suggestion: In addition to the very useful jdk7-bXX tags, add jdk7-mX or jdk7-milestoneX tags for each milestone as it is reaached. Although, we had plan to add tags for the "bigger" milestones such as ea, beta, etc. and not the MX milestones. We are trying not to have too many milestones, since there are only eight "MX" milestones that would be OK with me. If there are no objections I can add the MX milestones. -Xiomara Martin Buchholz wrote: > A suggestion: > In addition to the very useful jdk7-bXX tags, > add jdk7-mX or jdk7-milestoneX tags > for each milestone as it is reaached.
