This is a request to backport the JDK 8 fix into JDK 7u12:

6671481: NPE at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTreeUI$Handler.handleSelection

The fix has already been pushed to JDK 8, as:

The code changes for JDK 7u12 are identical to the ones in JDK 8.
