Guidelines for time to stabilize in jdk9 before considering a backport to jdk8u

Peter,

I'm not aware of any guidelines around how much 'soak time' a patch 
should get in the main feature release line before being backported. I 
guess there are several factors involved.

Some being :

* Riskiness of the fix. (complexity/scope of change/impact)
* Test coverage available
* Timeline - Proximity to next GA date.

A complex fix may warrant some time (1-2+ weeks) in JDK 9 so that 
nightly/QA testing and EA bundle testing can help confirm how good a fix 
is. A simple fix probably warrants an immediate backport where desired. 
In the case of complex fixes, sufficient soak time can help avoid 
duplicate work for an engineer in JDK 9 and JDK 8u if regressions were seen.
