Unfortunately, the changeset does not apply cleanly to 8u. So here is

Testing:
- JPRT (testset hotspot), all tests pass;
- Octane/Nashorn;
- the patch for 9 passed a complete cycle of nightly testing without 
problems;
- no performance regression (Octane/Nashorn, SPECjvm2008).
