Request for Approval: Backport of JDK-8188030: AWT java apps fail to start when some minimal fonts are present

Sorry to resurrect this old thread.

I would like to ask permission to push the following change to jdk8u-dev:

There may be some additional work necessary for the closed JDK, but I
have no way to test that, in that case there may be a follow up bug to
address the missing part and I'll be happy to assist if necessary
where possible.
