We're not always the masters of our destiny. We got notice of this
regression very late in the cycle and I had to make a judgment
call. There was time to apply the backport, just, and it was better to
get it in than spend time discussing whether we should; there is a lot
of latency on this list and such a discussion would surely have led to
failure.
