JDK8 & 11 updates/releases

Hello,

Since OpenJDK and especially the 8u and 11u Update projects are an community effort there is no definite/official answer to this. How ever there are a few commercial vendors behind it and they claim official support (to their customers) form some time in the future. You can look at their statements.

Oracle plans to support 8 till 2022/2030 and 11 2023/2026.
Azul announced to support 8 till 2030 and 11 2027.
Redhat announced to support 8 till 2026 and 11 2024
... (SAP and IBM, Amazon,  Alibaba, Eclipse have Similiar announcements)

I suspect all might prolong those deadlines if there is customer demand, and they will most likely continue to work in the update and security groups till that time (to some extend).

Bottom line, without a contract you have no guarantee, but there is a high probability that OpenJDK 8u issues updates to at least 2026 (based on 8u lead comes from RH).
