If Felix has diagnosed this correctly then it is not an AArch64-specific 
bug (even though it may currently only have manifested on AArch64). I'd 
like to be more sure of the diagnosis before we push a patch but I don't 
see anything wrong with us pre-emptively patching before the problem 
turns up on x86.
