I think the best thing would be to bring it up on awt-dev list (at least
I think this is the closest list to the area) and elaborate on the need
to extend classes in sun.applet. I think it would also help to sketch
out a possible JDK-specific API (in jdk.applet for example) that you
think is needed. A JDK-specific API could potentially be pushed to jdk8u
if it make sense and there was agreement that it's the right thing to do.
