sync up jigsaw/jigsaw?

Alan,
I did a private sync up (a few months) of a later JDK8 to jigsaw, to see
what the possible complications were. It never got pushed as you got
there before me. I can try doing this in a private repo, see how far it
get, and request help if it get stuck.
