Perfect stability will happen when we stop developing Java. In the meantime, we
continue to support old releases via the Updates project, and people keep using
Java 8.

That I can believe. The rest of us, however, know that Java is one of the most
stable platforms. If you'd like to be more aware of what happens to other popular
languages, I suggest you Google "Python 2->3 transition".
