We would need some acknowledgement that this will be done in some timing
fashion however, I would like to avoid that we ship this patch downstream
only for the need to support the closed 7.

In general I think this whole code shouldn’t be part of upstream JMC, you
mentioned some reason for this, can you explain better the issue and why is
it needed?
