We were using b82, which has a map function with overloads on primitive
Functional Interfaces.

Thanks for clarifying the correct idiom.  For the record I saw several
people do something like:

ToDoubleFunction toDouble = d -> (double) d;
DoubleStream ds = s.map(toDouble);
