Thanks for the review. I'm currently re-merging with macos-port to 
eliminate the BSD artifacts.
This will address some of the issues you mentioned below (and also from 
Phil yesterday).
We have test script changes ready to be pushed soon after this initial 
version. But, I would
prefer to get it working with a minimal set of changes to start with.

I will ask Kelly to look at the build changes. The other points will be 
addressed later.
