One other thing on this. I'm not sure if you mean java deprecated or OS deprecated.
If OS deprecated there's probably no reason to continue java support. If java deprecated but still valid OS API's there might be a reason to continue them?
As I remember it some of these were java implementations of crypto protocols used elsewhere by Apple.
Although there was nothing I made use of in preference to java alternatives that I remember.
