Good one ;-)  Turns out the correct answer was just try to log in.  It does not like it, but gives a button to resend the confirmation email.  Worked second time.

As far as the Application.jnlp comment, Yes it is a feature.  Doing all the JNLP experiments, I was reminded myself that I cannot just change the jnlp alone.  Your page said to list good and bad.  Just thought:  nobody is going to test that.  Maybe should mention it works.

Will submit bug on text placement of the check box.

I'll reply to the <resources> tag thing separately.  Your suggestion is not what I want.  I have been reading JNLP file syntax very closely, and will reply after tests are complete.
