Hi David,

Is it possible to provide a little more info regarding your runtime env? 
I understand the
frustration, me too:-) as I thought we had fixed this particular issue 
in JDK8, just waiting
for the timing to back port. But it appears this might not be the case. 
To help us to get
to the bottom of the issue, can you tell us

(1) which macos you are running, snow leopard, lion?
(2) the output of locale
(3) the output of your testing case, no -D setting at command line.
