Oh, by the way, actually I started to write something for this last night, along the lines of what I outlined. More or less had the java class done, prints and printlns (the println's just called the print methods, I saw no reason for the distinction here), I was thinking about the write methods and hadn't started the JN, but then thought I might be getting a little over achiever for code I probably wouldn't use and no one else had said they wanted. So I stopped working on it. 
If anyone thinks they'd get use out of it, I'd be happy to finish throwing something together that would probably work at least for simple debug println'.s
