JVM options

I was interested in what JIT might be doing and remembered there were some launch switches for the HotSpot JVM that might show you some information.
I found this

detailing some of those.
I have been unable to get any of these switches to generate any output though so far in testing.
Are the debug switches enabled in the distributed JRE's? Either shared or JDK?
