Guidance required in porting to MIPS 64

So what should be the initial step in order to port openjdk? I have got the cross compilation tool chain set for my architecture and have obtained the openjdk source code.
My prior experience suggests that I only will have to perform cross compilation of the openjdk source code. Is that so, or there would be other tasks involved here?
Thanks.

Hi,
A previous project is here:
http://icedtea.classpath.org/hg/openjdk6-mips. This project is a
32-bit JIT version for Loongson.
