Fate of project HotSwap?

What is the fate of the seemingly promising HowSwap project described on https://wikis.oracle.com/display/mlvm/HotSwap ?
I realise the patch is old, but if it could be updated, would anyone want to support this?
I'm guessing the functionality would also have to cope with some new features regarding invokedynamic, to support swapping in new lambda expressions.

My interest comes from involvement in Eclipse's Java Development Tools, where the debugger is somewhat limited due to the limitations of the current implementation of RedefineClasses.
