Sorry I didn't know you had a patch coming. The change-set that I pushed 
just locates the file system using /proc/mounts as Mark suggested. 
FileSystem#getFileStores still uses /etc/mtab (to avoid surprises). I'll 
get this into jdk7 in a few weeks time, along with the other API changes 
and fixes that are accumulating.
