I have posted an updated patch for review at your convenience:

Difference versus previous patch: make for write() methods the javadoc change made in the previous version of the patch for the newBufferedWriter() methods, and add corresponding tests to CheckPermissions.

I will withhold filing the CCC request until this change has been approved. Also, I will meanwhile launch a JPRT test run; a test run with the newBufferedWriter changes only passed yesterday.
