AF_LOCAL? (Was: Re: adding rsockets support into JDK)

Given the precedent of RDMA sockets, what about introducing
LocalSocketAddress/ProtocolFamily.AF_LOCAL (nee AF_UNIX) support, for
those platforms which support it?  Is this something that could, at
this point, be realistically approved, were it proposed and
implemented?
