This came up on the nio-dev mailing list a few weeks ago too. This API 
targets jdk7 and we don't plan to release a standalone version. There is 
some interest in using the file system API with existing JDK releases 
and to that end, Kevin Bourrillion (Google) has been looking into 
back-porting this part for use with jdk6 on Linux. I'm not aware of any 
efforts to back-port other areas of the API.
