Source and Target 1.5

Is it me doing something wrong or is it not possible to compile code against
JDK 1.7.0 with source and target set to 1.5? I would like to be able to
figure the environment at runtime. So far I have been happily using source
and target 1.6, but when trying 1.5, my unit tests fail with a verify error.
