I finally got back to this. I instrumented the code enough to know that the problem of accessing "zombie" screens is preexisting. Whether or not we call dispose (to zero out the native pointer), there are several references left to zombie screens. I can't fins evidence of any problem as a result, and this PR certainly doesn't make it any worse.

So I withdraw my objection.
