I don't know how difficult that would be, but I can imagine that it's quite a lot of work.

I think that CSS is one of the most unique and useful features of JavaFX, which is the reason why I think we should enhance its utility, not advise people to not use it to its fullest potential.
Here's something to consider:
Is there any thinkable use case where someone would _need_ to front-insert a large number of nodes one by one into a container, instead of using a bulk operation? Because if there isn't, and it's just a simple change to do the right thing, then we could also consider adding a javadoc note to that effect.
