Hey, Michael, thanks for the empathy! Earlier in your note
you quoted the Panama Project goals, which I wrote, and
still stand by, and have always thought are somewhere on
the edge of overly ambitious. (That’s where I like to work,
personally.) Clearly, any one JEP or incubator API will only
carve off a subset of that long list of goals, so Panama is
designed as the breeding ground for many such JEPs and
incubator APIs.
That said, I’m trying to understand your point here: When
Maurizio (whom I trust, in case that’s not obvious!) seems to
go off in an unsurprising direction, there are two possibilities.
First, the person being surprised is looking at part A of the
large Panama portfolio, and Maurizio is designing in some
other part B. Second, Maurizio is doing something that,
while entailed by the basic logic of the Panama portfolio,
is not explicitly listed on the Big List you cited.
Which one is going on here? In fact, would you mind drafting
a FAQ item (with holes, as you wish), so we can see what sort
of pre-written answer would have been helpful to you? We’ll
take it from there. :-)
I’m not trying to push back on you at all, but rather I want to
make sure we’ve answered your question about what’s in
Panama, because that’s likely to answer the same question
for a bunch of other folks in the future.
Thanks,
— John
