There was clearly broad concern about the "deprecation" message from many developers on the Mac OS X platform [1] [2] [3]. This project sponsorship continues the themes of expanding upon Sun's original goal of "run anywhere" universality and of enabling the innovation made possible by Free Software [4] [5]. Today we have a wide range of operating systems (e.g. GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, BSD, Windows, Haiku OS) and chip architectures (e.g. i586, x86_64, sparc, arm, powerpc, mips) supported or in development. A big "Thanks!" to Apple and welcome to the community! --Tom [0] http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/11/12openjdk.html [1] http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20020338-260.html [2] http://blogs.oracle.com/henrik/2010/11/oracle_and_apple_announce_openjdk_project_for_osx.html [3] http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/macjdk [4] http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/porters-dev/2007-December/000006.html [5] http://web.archive.org/web/20080822064017/www.sun.com/software/opensource/java/faq.jsp#e From dalibor.topic at oracle.com Wed Dec 1 13:52:44 2010 From: dalibor.topic at oracle.com (Dalibor Topic) Date: Wed, 01 Dec 2010 22:52:44 +0100 Subject: CFV: Project sponsorship: Mac OS X Port In-Reply-To: <4CF69CAF.8030609@info9.net> References: <4CF56908.5000806@oracle.com> <4CF69CAF.8030609@info9.net> Message-ID: <4CF6C3AC.4080605@oracle.com> On 12/1/10 8:06 PM, Tom Marble wrote: > Vote: yes Thank you for your vote, Tom, and for the kind words.
