The s390x port has been integrated into the mainline in JDK 9 [1] and is ever since supported there by SAP and recently IBM. Since then the s390x Project is responsible for maintaining the port (updates can be found in the the s390x Project Wiki [2]). According to the OpenJDK Bylaws, the Lead of the sponsoring group (Dalibor Topic from the Porters Group) needs to assign a new Project Lead [4]. I want to propose Amit Kumar (OpenJDK name amitkumar [3]) as new Project Lead. Amit is employed by IBM and actively working on the s390 maintenance and feature implementation. He recently became an OpenJDK Committer with a track record of 38 commits to the project [5]. I also extend a special thanks to Lutz and Martin for their assistance during the Onboarding process for this project. Following internal discussion, I am pleased to inform you that my Management has approved my appointment as the new Project Lead for s390x-port. I am honoured to accept this role and am eager to continue our collaboration on the OpenJDK project. Our team will be responsible for maintaining and supporting jdk (head), jdk8u, jdk11u, and jdk17u. We will make sure that everything operates seamlessly on these repositories through regular builds and testing. If this is approved, we will submit the RFR early during the JDK 24 development cycle and expect maintainers to contribute the changes required to migrate the remaining platforms into the JEP changeset. Please have a look at the x64 and aarch64 changes in the current JEP implementation (subject to minor changes) to estimate and plan the work required to migrate each platform. Thanks, Roberto Casta?eda Lozano (HotSpot compiler team at Oracle)
