jstat does not accept program names as vmid?

Yes, exactly. Since I am more at home with jcmd, I was surprised by
the different semantics, especially since both parameters are termed
"vm id".

I would have not been surprised at all (or, only pleasantly so :) had
jstack allowed to connect to multiple VMs too.
