May I suggest having a function for reading `depsFile` that return the name of the branches in the depsFile as a `List`. Something like:
```java
private List<Branch> dependencies(Path depsFile) {
    if (Files.exists(depsFile)) {
        // parse despFile
    } else {
        return List.of("master");
    }
}
