So I THINK that means the original one is still installed but I'm
using the 42.5 version.<br>
i.e I'm assuming the one it reports by default is the active one.<br>

Is that mutter 42.5, or some other package? I think you should be able
to check with `apt list mutter`.

Still seems like I should try something newer

Seems like we need to move up to more recent distro of something with a
later gnome.
FYI Alexander found the problem went away on VirtualBox if he disables
3D Acceleration
but that isn't a general workaround ..

The problem discussed here
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://wiki.openjdk.org/display/wakefield/Meeting+Notes">https://wiki.openjdk.org/display/wakefield/Meeting+Notes</a>
"And there is one that is not a crash, with one particular test on

to get the screen data."
looks like a case in which JDK uses puts a window into full screen mode
using this code
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://github.com/openjdk/jdk/blob/master/src/java.desktop/unix/native/libawt_xawt/awt/awt_GraphicsEnv.c#L1672">https://github.com/openjdk/jdk/blob/master/src/java.desktop/unix/native/libawt_xawt/awt/awt_GraphicsEnv.c#L1672</a>
In this case screencast capture of that window just fails.
I found a 12-18 month old thread where you were mentioned
although I'm not
sure if you were directly involved
or just integrating fixes.
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal/issues/610">https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal/issues/610</a>

Can you shed any light on whether this might still be an issue
on Gnome 42
(which is what I think I have).

</blockquote>
<pre class="moz-quote-pre" wrap="">That should be included in 42, and does look related. There seems to
have been a regression
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2282">https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2282</a>) that I seem to
have fixed
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2462">https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2462</a>). The fix
was backported to 42.3. What version of mutter does your system have
installed?
